Early Years Professional Status

Who is it for?

EYPS is awarded to people who can demonstrate that they meet a set of national graduate level Early Years Professional standards when working with children from birth to five. EYPS is the only professional graduate accreditation for the early years workforce. Early Years Professionals are key to raising the quality of early years provision. They are ‘change agents’ to improve practice. They will lead practice across the Early Years Foundation Stage, support and mentor other practitioners and model the skills and behaviours that safeguard and support children.

    • The Graduate Practitioner Pathway: for experienced Practitioners with a degree. This is a six month part-time programme
    • The Undergraduate Practitioner Pathway: for those with a Foundation Degree.  This is a twelve month part-time programme which includes a ‘top up’ to a BA hons Degree.  This pathway is also available for those with a degree but with less experience in working in the Early Years sector and so need additional training and development to underpin their knowledge and understanding of child development and the EYFS.
    • The Graduate Entry Pathway: for graduates with very limited or no experience with 0-5 year olds and who wish to pursue a career in early years.  This is a full time 12 month course (one day per week at University and three/four days per week on placement).

    CETAD & Partners of the Northern EYPS Alliance are now enrolling for all of the above Pathways which will start in September 2012.

    Places are limited and priority will go to candidates working in areas of deprivation, however all applications will be considered.

     



    Qualifications

    EYPS is a recognisable status equivalent to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). It is not a qualification it is a new status that will recognise your expertise as a practitioner and a professional leader.

    Assessment

    There are no exams. Final assessment is in the form of a setting visit and completion of written tasks.

    Entry requirements

    Graduate Practitioner Pathway must hold a degree and be an experienced practitioner.

    Undergraduate Practitioner Pathway may have a Foundation Degree in Early Years or an unrelated degree but have limited early years experience.

    Graduate Entry Pathway must hold a degree which can be in any discipline.

    All applicants must hold a GCSE English and Maths (grades A-C) before starting the programme. CETAD can offer help for those who need to obtain English and/or Maths GCSE.

    EYPS applicants must have a Criminal Records Bureau enhanced disclosure check which shows that they do not have a criminal record that might prevent them working with children. CETAD will undertake to make this check.

    Candidates must have the right to study/work in the UK for at least the duration of their pathway.

    Fees

    FULLY FUNDED places are available for candidates currently working in private, voluntary and independent early years settings, children's centres and childminders and from 2012 this includes maintained settings. The move to extend funding and access into nursery schools and maintained schools with reception classes reflects the Government’s early years ambition - to give priority places and funding to candidates working in settings in disadvantaged areas.

     

    In addition, your employer may receive support with supply cover for the time you are away from your workplace undertaking training.

     

    A Bursary is available to candidates undertaking the Graduate Entry Pathway.

     

    Self Funded options are available for both national and international candidates who are not eligible for funding but wish to pursue Early Years accreditation.
